Title
BRIDGE-BS - Pilot Site 7 - Sinop
Abstract

This Pilot Site is one of the seven selected as Case Studies in the BRIDGE-BS Project. The site contains the marine and landward side of the city of Sinop, and extends to the deeper edge of the continental shelf. The site also includes the delta of Kizilirmak River, the largest river of Turkey. The Black Sea Rim Current shapes the water column habitats along with the anticyclonic gyres in the region “Sinop eddy and Kizilirmak eddy”. Food provisioning (aquaculture, PS) and heritage/tourism (CS) are prominent ecosystem services. Important stressors are pollution from rivers and subsequent eutrophication and deoxygenation. Aquaculture will be the focus sector in the Southern Shelf site.
